Earlier this week I had the honor to deliver a session at AccountEX in the UK. Here is the video:

Some random thoughts on the trip:

  • I was on the ground in London for 30 hours total. As a result, the jet lag was not so bad. I think I caught up with it on the way home.
  • Of the 30 hours on the ground, three of them were spent going from/to Heathrow and the ExCeL Centre. London is not set up for automobile traffic. The 26 mile trip took 90+ minutes each way. That included one half a leg via the Heathrow Express train to the centre of London.
  • On the way back to the airport I passed by Buckingham Palace. My Über driver informed me that the Queen was not at home. Good for her.
  • I am sure the is not reflective of the country in general, but I can honestly say that the best meals I had were on the plane coming and going.
  • I had about 45 people attend the session. I think they liked it. The English are a tough crowd.

On Monday, July 28, 2014, at 3:30pm – 5:00pm PT, I will have the honor of being the emcee for a special session at Sage Summit 2014 exclusively for Sage Partners. The session is entitled Creating a new future: Partnering in the age of the cloud. We will feature Partners as well as Sage team members in casual conversation (read unscripted) on a Tonight Show type set.

This session is dedicated to the possibility that partners will be more successful in the future if they are willing to transform their business model to better reflect the realities of the new market place. This is hard work as it requires us to think differently about our preconceived notions of the past and future. If you are interested in actively participating in the creation of the future, this session is for you. This session is for all partners of Sage regardless of product.

My Sage Summit 2014 Sessions

Well, it is official. I will be doing some speaking at Sage Summit 2014 in July.

In addition to hosting a general session for all Sage Partners on Monday from 3:30 to 5:00, I will delivering some fun content during the show to all Partners and Customers.

  1. BUS-559 Increasing user adoption on Tuesday from 10:30 to noon. This session is based on my conversations last year with customers during Sage City. I was surprised at how many current customers struggled with user adoption. Topics will include: identifying and dealing with resistance and leading during times of change.
  2. MAX-558 Healing leadership on Tuesday from 1:30 to 2:30. I am thrilled to have the permission of my mentors Howard Hansen and Steve Geske to include this topic this year. We will cover emotional triangles and chronic versus transactional anxiety.
  3. IND-561 Economics in one game on Wednesday from 4 to 5. This is an expanded version of my Inspire Tour keynote presentation. It includes an additional round in the game, a deeper dive into some of the economic data and some fun videos that I did not have time to show during the keynote version on the road.
  4. IND-560 Top ten business myths on Thursday from 11-11:45. This session will be a rapid fire look at these myths and includes a 10 minute question and answer period.

I would ask my Sage Partner friends to promote some of these sessions to your customers and maybe even plan to attend with them. As always, I think they will promote healthy conversations.

Sage Thought Leadership Podcast for Partners

At Sage Summit 2013, we announced a new partner program – The Weekly Sage Partner Podcast.

This podcast will spotlight one Sage partner each week. I will conduct the interview with you and ask you to share how you have solved a particularly difficult customer problem as well as something that you are doing inside your organization to facilitate growth.

An Oldie, but Goodie – The Seven S Model

Earlier this week I had the opportunity to speak about an old friend, the Seven S Model, as part of the Sage Thought Leadership Webcast Series. This model originated at McKinsey and Company in the 1970s and was made famous by appearing on page 10 in Tom Peters and and Robert Waterman’s all-time best seller, In Search of Excellence.

images-12I present a modified version of the model which was taught to me by Howard Hansen and Doug Burgum of Great Plains Software. I am forever indebted to both of them as this model has had a most profound impact on my career.

Entitled The Seven S Model and Shared Vision, this webcast is dedicated to the possibility that organizations that have well-defined and shared visions of their future will be better places for team members to work and have happier customers. Creating a well-defined shared vision is hard work and not for everyone as it requires us to look deep into ourselves and examine our beliefs as people.

Sage Summit 2012: Call for Videos

We want to feature you at Sage Summit! In a short video, up to 30 seconds, simply follow the instructions and lines we include below. Be creative! Accepted videos will be featured during the Sage City opening video at Sage Summit. It’s a great way to stand up and be recognized! Deadline to submit videos and photos is June 22, 2012.

You can even use your phone! At the opening of your video, state your full name and whether you are a business partner or customer. Then simply read one or more of the following lines to the camera, pausing between segments and completing the thought where indicated:

  • “A Sage business knows that the key to our success is in our hands.”
  • <Sage product name> helps me take my business from here in <your city name> to the next level so that I can <make or provide> the finest <your product/service>.”
  • “A Sage business knows how to <your favorite Sage benefit>.
  • “I have the key.”
  • “Altogether, we are the key to Sage City.”

Video success tips:

  • Don’t worry if you stray from the script; ad libbing is encouraged.
  • Stay close to the subject as you shoot. This will ensure you get the best quality audio.
  • Find a background that represents your business or city.
  • Use the new Sage product names. Refer to the product name grid.
  • Avoid clothes with patterns or light colors.

To submit your video clip, save your file with the following name structure – FirstName_LastName_Organization

Then, upload it as follows:

PC User:

  1. Highlight and copy the following line (including "explorer.exe"):
    explorer.exe ftp://SageSummit2012:SS2012$@dataexchange.crameronline.com
  2. Click the Start button, bottom left corner.
  3. Click on the Open field and Paste.
  4. Click the link on the top of the window.
  5. The FTP site will open. Click and drag the file(s) into the appropriate folder: Video.

Mac User:

  1. Click Go > Connect to computer.
  2. Enter ftp://dataexchange.crameronline.com
  3. User name: SageSummit2012
