On Friday, April 16, the folks at the Cato Institute sponsored one of their Capitol Hill Briefings. The subject of this one happened to be National Education Standards. As usual it is excellent, and I want to bring it to your attention because it is completely in line with my thinking on the subject of education.

If you have 30 minutes, I implore you to take a listen. If not, then here is the key message;

• If you want excellence in education, we need freedom of choice. I.e., school vouchers.
• If you want mediocrity in education, create standards.
• If you want those standards to fail, leave it up to the Federal Government.
